PROGRAM DESCRIPTION  top of page

   Charleston Catholic High School challenges students’ intellectual, spiritual, and personal levels in a community atmosphere. Daily theology classes provide opportunities for faith development, personal growth, and an understanding of others’ viewpoints. Participation in community service and cultural arts events is a requirement for promotion and graduation. Each year, students typically contribute over 11,500 hours outside the school day in service to the community.

   All students are enrolled in seven classes per day. All courses are offered at the college preparatory level with honors and Advanced Placement courses available beginning in tenth grade. Placement in all courses is based on achievement, aptitude, and motivation.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT  top of page

   In May 2007, 84% of CCHS students who were enrolled in AP courses scored 3 or higher on their College Board AP exams, compared to 47% in WV and 59% in US where students scored at this level. In addition, 70% of the CCHS students who chose to take AP exams for non-AP (i.e., college preparatory) classes taught at CCHS scored at least a 3 on the College Board AP exams.

   Charleston Catholic High School does not rank students since all students follow a college preparatory curriculum.
   All courses are included in the computation of the GPA. Honors and Advanced Placement courses, noted by asterisks on transcripts, are weighted.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES  top of page

   Life at Charleston Catholic High School includes a wide range of activities and service opportunities. Participation in unique clubs/activities and athletic teams is quite high, typically involving over 90% of the student body.

Clubs/activities: Housing Outreach Project Express (H.O.P.E.), Pax Christi, Ski Club, Student Activities Council, drama club, state and regional academic competitions, French Club, Spanish Club, Junior Classical League, Quiz Bowl, pep band
