  • Born in Tokyo, Japan
  • Raised in Falls Church, VA
  • Graduated from St. James School (Falls Church) and Bishop Denis J. O'Connell High School (Arlington, VA)
  • Earned B.A. in English and Secondary Education - University of Virginia
  • Earned M.A. in Language Communications - University of Pittsburgh
  • Taught in rural and urban public and private schools in Madison, VA; Rochester, NY; Pittsburgh, PA; and Fayette County, WV
  • Worked as State Reading Coordinator at WV Department of Education and as Director of Adolescent Education for Putnam County (WV) Schools
  • Became principal at Charleston Catholic High School in August 1985 and served simultaneously as principal at Sacred Heart Grade School 1991-1999
  • Married to Ken Sullivan, Executive Director of the WV Humanities Council
  • Has one son, Benjamin, CCHS class of 1997, a lawyer who lives in Charleston with his wife and their daughter
  • Enjoys spending time with family, reading, quilting, construction, and cooking
