CCHS Textbook Purchases and Sales

May 25, 2011

Textbooks, workbooks, and other materials are necessary parts of the Charleston Catholic High School instructional program. As was mentioned in the April newsletter, we continue our efforts to improve the ease of securing textbooks, both new and used, doing so in as timely and as cost-effective manner as possible.

After an exhaustive review of a variety of options, including contacts with other Catholic high schools nationwide, CCHS is now working with ESCO Books, a virtual bookstore that has been providing textbooks for over thirty years. Because of this partnership, the most immediate change affects our used textbook process. ESCO will buy back used textbooks. You will not have to wait to see if your students’ books sell in our used book sale. Beginning this June, individuals who would like to sell their used books to ESCO will have two options: 1) Books can be brought to school to be shipped to ESCO; or 2) Books can be packed and shipped to ESCO from home using a pre-printed label. ESCO will offer cash or credit toward next year’s book purchases for the used books. The ESCO website link is http://cch.escobookstore.com.

Many families trade/sell/purchase books on their own and, of course, this will continue to be a wonderful option. If you have questions, please contact Ms. Kate FitzGerald at school.

What this means for you: USED TEXTBOOKS

If you currently have arrangements to secure used books you are encouraged to continue such plans. If you wish to purchase books from online sources in addition to ESCO, you may also do that. The key to purchasing the correct textbooks and other instructional materials is using the exact ISBN numbers that will be posted on the ESCO website beginning August 10 for each of our courses.

ESCO offers the following with their arrangement:

BUYBACK SERVICE -- Two Options for Buybacks:

1. AT CCHS — FastTrac: PVA will manage the simple buyback process. Books that will be used again during the 2011-12 school year at CCHS may be submitted to ESCO for buy-back. Students or parents will print or fill out the buyback form, place books in bag, and drop them off at school on the dates listed below. Books will be evaluated at company headquarters in Tempe, AZ, and a check will be issued or a bookstore credit will be given.

Buyback dates: Thursday- May 26th - 11:00am-3:00pm (seniors have been told)

Friday- June 3rd - 11:00am-3:00pm (all grades, including seniors)

Monday- June 6th - 9:00am-12:00pm (all grades, including seniors)

4 EASY STEPS

STEP 1: Check buyback list at Charleston Catholic High School or on ESCO.

STEP 2: Fill out the buyback form completely, or bring form printed from ESCO website.

STEP 3: Put books into a plastic bag, provided by ESCO in the CCHS Commons on the buyback dates listed above.

STEP 4: Give the bag of books to an PVA volunteer in the CCHS Commons.

DON’T FORGET – KEEP YOUR CERTIFICATE # FOR PURCHASES!

2. ONLINE — Mail: ESCO will provide a prepaid USPS Media Mail label on their online bookstore website. Customers must enter their list of books and then mail the package to ESCO. If the customer does not use the shipping label during the designated 2 week buyback period, shipping charges will be deducted from refund amount.

As this is our FIRST YEAR, ESCO will pay 40% - 50% of the retail used-A price on titles that are being used by the school the following year.

After year one: ESCO will pay up to 50% of the price that the customer paid if the book was purchased from ESCO and is in resalable condition. Books that are returned that have not been purchased from ESCO will receive up to 20% of value.

What this means for you: NEW TEXTBOOKS

CCHS will not be handling any books on campus. Parents are responsible for having the necessary books for students in a timely manner. The ESCO online bookstore will be open August 10th, the first day of registration. At this time students will have their schedules and course numbers to enable them to order the correct books. Books from ESCO should arrive in 3 days, ensuring that students will have books available to them on the first full day of classes. Your first ESCO book order, if ordered within the first two weeks, will be shipped directly to your home for free. Books may be returned for a full refund within the first 30 days.

As always, please put your student’s name in the books. We frequently have orphan books which cannot be returned to the owner and end up languishing in the lost and found.
